Statement of Commitment to Child Safe Standards
The Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) prioritises the safety and wellbeing of all children through its regulation of the teaching profession throughout Queensland.
In performing its functions under the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005, the QCT has an overarching legislative obligation to ensure that the welfare and best interests of children is the primary consideration in all decision making.
The QCT makes this statement of commitment to being a Child Safe Organisation, fully implementing the Child Safe Standards, and meeting its obligations under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024, including as the Child Safe Standards Co-Sector Regulator for the teaching profession.
To further support the safety, wellbeing and best interests of children the QCT is committed to:

Ensuring authentic application of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers for each career stage in its regulation of the teaching profession.

Proactive regulation of compliance with the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 including mandatory reporting.

Teacher registration eligibility requirements being transparent and aligning with the Child Safe Standards.

Responsive action in relation to notifications or complaints about allegations of harm or likely harm to children.

Actively supporting the safety of all children who directly engage with the QCT including the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children (Universal Principle) and children from diverse backgrounds, in accordance with its Statement of Commitment to Cultural Safety.

Prioritising the implementation and embedment of Child Safe Standards throughout our day-to-day decision-making and practice.

Ensuring policies and procedures comply with the Child Safe Standards and Universal Principle and the process of continual improvement.
