Value of registration
Teacher registration acknowledges teaching as an important profession.
As in other professions that require registration, such as medicine, law and nursing, registration highlights the unique professional qualifications, knowledge and skills required to practice.
The registration system ensures that only appropriately qualified and suitable people are employed as teachers in Queensland. This contributes to protecting educational standards and student safety, and upholds the reputation of the profession.
For teachers, registration means:
- being eligible to teach in a Queensland school and
- being accepted by colleagues and the public as a member of the teaching profession
The QCT provides for Queensland registered teachers:
- myQCT, a password-accessed facility on the QCT website where teachers can pay fees, update their details, and log their CPD
- access to professional learning resources, workshops and web conferences
- QCT eNews, a newsletter regularly emailed to registered teachers
- eligibility to be nominated for Excellence in Teaching awards
- eligibility to apply for a small number of annual research grants
- access to various QCT publications
