2020 QCT Photo Comp Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility

  1. Entries for the 2020 QCT Photo Comp are postponed.
  2. All students and staff at Queensland schools (from Prep to Year 12) and a Queensland early childhood settings delivering theQCAA Kindergarten Learning Guideline or C&K Building Waterfalls kindergarten guideline are eligible to enter.
  3. Images must feature a teacher who is currently registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
  4. All imagery must have been taken within a Queensland school environment.
  5. There is no limit to the number of entries a school can submit.
  6. QCT employees and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.
  7. The entry submitted must be endorsed by a school principal or a principal’s delegate (as declared on the entry form).
  8. Images must have been taken after 1 January 2019.
  9. Photo entries must be submitted in JPG, PNG or GIF format with a file package not exceeding 2 GB.
  10. Entrants may submit colour or black and white imagery.
  11. Photo images must be at least 12 megapixels (or equivalent) – suitable for print reproduction.
  12. A brief statement of up to 25 words is mandatory to describe the submitted imagery.
  13. Post processing (e.g. Photoshop and similar software) is permitted on imagery.
  14. The entrant must have the written, signed and dated permission of all people appearing in the imagery submitted and of the photographer. The entrant must be able to produce evidence of permission from the subject if requested during the judging process.

2. Entry requirements

  1. Entries must be made through the online submission form at https://qldct.schoolzineplus.com//form/27 .
  2. Entries must be submitted online by 5pm, Wednesday 8 April 2020. Late entries will not be accepted.
  3. Receipt of entries will be acknowledged by email to the provided email address of the entrant.
  4. Only digital files will be accepted as eligible entries. Prints or entries on CD/DVD will not be accepted.
  5. All files must be named: Surname_First Name_entry number (e.g. Smith_John_01).
  6. Entrants may be required to submit their entry on CD/DVD with a higher resolution version for reproduction/exhibition purposes if requested.
  7. Personal contact information provided as part of entry will not be disclosed without consent for any other purpose unless required by law.
  8. By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions outlined in this document.

3. Judging and prizes

  1. All entries will be judged by a QCT appointed panel. They will consider elements of creativity and originality in depicting an inspiring teaching moment.
  2. Every approved entry will be considered for judging.
  3. Entries with offensive or discriminatory content against an individual or group of people will be ineligible.
  4. Information received from entrants may be published on the QCTs website and/or in external publications.
  5. Contact information provided may be used for administration and media purposes.
  6. Prizes are as listed in the table below. There will be one winner per category and one runner-up per category.

  7. If there are more than one registered teacher in the photo, the ‘Teacher’ prize money must be split evenly between them.
  8. School prize money is to be used for the purpose of providing professional development of the educational staff at the school.
  9. Finalists will be notified and listed on the QCT’s website.
  10. Winners and runners up will be notified by phone or email during the first week of Term 2.
  11. The winners and runners up will be announced on the QCT website and on social media during the first week of Term 2.
  12. The judges’ decisions will be deemed final and appeals will not be considered.

4. Exhibition and usage

  1. An online gallery (on the QCT website) will display finalists, runners up and winning images.
  2. Imagery entered may be used by the QCT for business communication collateral.

5. Copyright and moral rights

  1. Upon submission of an entry to the 2020 QCT Photo Comp, the photographer as the owner of the imagery grants the QCT the right to:
    1. maintain a copy of the imagery for archival purposes;
    2. enlarge and adapt the imagery in order to fit the large-scale format;
    3. publish on QCT’s website and social media platforms;
    4. use the imagery for promotional and publicity purposes relating to promoting the teaching profession;
    5. display the imagery in public spaces; and
    6. allow the imagery to be reproduced and/or exhibited by the QCT.
    7. This consent is perpetual, nonexclusive transferrable and royalty free.
  2. The photographer warrants that he/she is the owner of all copyright of the artwork or has obtained all necessary approvals to permit the submission of the imagery to the competition.
  3. While the photographer retains copyright of the imagery, he/she grants permission for the imagery to be used for promotional and publicity purposes relating to QCT and for the imagery to be promoted through social media sites.
  4. While the QCT will take care to ensure the quality and integrity of the reproduced artwork, the photographer acknowledges that enlargements and slight variations to the imagery may result from adapting the original artwork to the large-scale format required for exhibition presentation.

6. Force majeure

  1. If for any reason the competition is not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the QCT), which corrupts or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, the QCT reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. The QCT reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition.

7. Consent

  1. The entrant, the person signing the entry form, grants consent to the QCT to use and retain:
    1. the entrant’s name;
    2. the names and images of all individuals in the image; and
    3. the photographer’s image or images (copyright material).
  2. By submitting an entry form the entrant must acknowledge that they have been granted permission by the school principal and any person featuring in the imagery to enter this competition and abide by these terms and conditions.
  3. The QCT takes no responsibility for circumstances in which it is misled as to the identity or authority of a person to provide consent.
  4. The consent applies to any use of the Individual’s name, or image, and Individual work, in connection with the QCT, including for the following purposes:
    1. promotion and activities relating to the 2020 QCT Photo Comp
    2. public relations, promotion, advertising, media and commercial activities;
    3. use by the media in relation to activities that promote the teaching profession; and
    4. use by other organisations, if any, in partnership or association with the QCT, for the purpose of promoting the profession or the functions of the QCT.

8. QCT use

  1. ‘Use’ includes:
    1. create, make copies of, reproduce, modify, adapt or retain in any form, including by camera, video, or digital recorder, webcam, closed circuit television, mobile phone or any other device;
    2. distribute, publish or communicate in any form, including but not limited to newsletters and other print media, electronic media, television, social media platforms and the internet; and in whole or in part, and to permit other persons to do so.
  2. The completed material can appear in QCT newsletters, QCT magazines, QCT websites, on QCT social media platforms and in other QCT publications, as well as in television advertising, videos, brochures, forms, public relations displays, annual reports, press advertising, internal publications. There may also be occasions on which the QCT may approve the media, such as local newspapers and television, using information and material in relation to Individuals.
  3. Neither the QCT nor the State will pay the Entrant, or an Individual, for giving consent or for the use of the Entrant/Individual’s name, image, or Individual work.

9. Ownership

  1. An Individual’s copyright material may include written work (e.g. stories and poems), paintings, pictures, drawings, designs, photographs, videos, films, music, performance, recordings, computer programs, websites, sculptures, fashion, metal or wood works made by them or to which they contributed.
  2. The QCT understands that students and volunteers generally own the intellectual property rights in the material they create, and that Consent is not meant to transfer those persons’ ownership.
  3. The Consent simply means that the QCT has permission to use the Individual’s material for the purposes mentioned.
  4. If an individual wants to revoke consent, they must contact the QCT.

10. Duration

  1. Consent continues unless revoked in writing to the Director, QCT.
  2. Any revocation of consent will not have effect in relation to existing contractual obligations entered into by the QCT prior to the consent being revoked.
  3. The revocation of consent will take effect when the QCT’s contractual obligations end.

11. General conditions

  1. The QCT reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the competition and/or the judging process at any time without notice or further recourse to the photographers or schools.
  2. The 2020 QCT Photo Comp is presented and promoted by the QCT. The QCT registers teachers for Queensland schools and accredits the state’s preservice teacher education programs.
