2023 QCT Photo Comp Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility

To be eligible, entries must be submitted through a Queensland school.

QCT employees and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.

By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions outlined in this document.

Entries with offensive or discriminatory content against any individual or group of people will be ineligible.

2. Entry requirements

Entries for the 2023 QCT Photo Competition are open between Thursday, 5 October 2023 and midnight on Friday, 10 November 2023.

Entries must be submitted online by midnight on Friday,10 November 2023. Late entries will not be accepted.

Entries must be made through the online submission form at www.qct.edu.au/photocomp/entry-form and receipt of entries will be acknowledged by email to the provided email address of the school.

The entry submitted must be endorsed by a school principal or a principal’s delegate (as declared on the entry form).

All imagery must have been taken within a Queensland education setting and must reflect the theme ‘My Teacher Life: Capturing the diversity of everyday teaching moments’ which highlights the diversity of the profession and the high standards of teaching schools.

A brief statement of up to 500 characters is required to describe the submitted imagery.

There is a limit of the 10 entries a school can submit.

Images must not plagiarise the work of any other person.

Photo requirements:

  • entries must be submitted in High-Resolution JPG format with a file package not exceeding 20MB.
  • Entries may be colour or black and white digital images
  • images must be at least 12 megapixels (or equivalent – approx. 5000px x 3500px @ 300dpi) – suitable for print reproduction
  • post-processing (e.g. Photoshop and similar software) is permitted on imagery
  • only digital files will be accepted as eligible entries.

3. Judging and prizes

All entries will be judged by a QCT appointed panel.

The winning entries will be drawn from a shortlist of finalists determined by the QCT panel.

Prize money to the total value of $4750 will be divided amongst each of the 13 winning entries and will be allocated to the school named in the entry form as follows:

  • First prize - $1,000
  • Second prize - $750
  • Third prize - $500
  • Ten runners up - $250 each

No prize money will be allocated to individual teachers nor to finalists.

Winners will be notified by phone or email and will be announced on the QCT website and social media accounts.

The judges’ decisions will be deemed final and appeals will not be considered.

4. Exhibition and usage

An online gallery (on the QCT website) will display winning images.

Imagery entered may be used by the QCT for business communication collateral.

5. Copyright and moral rights

In submitting an entry, the school/teacher:

  • warrants that they are the owner of all copyright of the image or have obtained all necessary approvals from copyright owners to permit the submission of the imagery to the competition
  • warrants that where necessary the consent of persons appearing in the image including in the case of students/minors the consent of parent/guardian, has been obtained for the use by the QCT of the image for the purposes in these terms and conditions
  • grants permission for the imagery to be used for promotional and publicity purposes relating to QCT and for the imagery to be promoted through QCT social media sites.

Upon submission of an entry to the 2023 QCT Photo Competition, the school/ teacher grants the QCT the right to:

  • maintain a copy of the imagery for archival purposes
  • enlarge and adapt the imagery to fit the large-scale format
  • publish the imagery on QCT’s website and social media platforms
  • use the imagery for promotional and publicity purposes relating to promoting the teaching profession
  • display the imagery in public spaces, and
  • allow the imagery to be reproduced and/or exhibited by the QCT.

This consent is perpetual, nonexclusive, transferrable and royalty-free.

While the QCT will take care to ensure the quality and integrity of the reproduced imagery the school/teacher acknowledges that enlargements and slight variations to the imagery may result from adapting the original artwork to the large-scale format required for exhibition presentation.

6. Force majeure

If for any reason the competition is not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the QCT), which corrupts or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, the QCT reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. The QCT reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition.

7. Consent

The entrant, the registered teacher signing the entry form, grants consent to the QCT to use and retain:

  1. the Individual’ name
  2. the submitted image; and
  3. the copyright material.

Personal contact information provided as part of entry will not be disclosed without consent for any purpose other than in relation to the competition and these terms and conditions unless required by law.

By submitting an entry form the entrant acknowledges that they have been granted permission by the school principal to enter this competition and abide by these terms and conditions.

The QCT takes no responsibility for circumstances in which it is misled as to the identity or authority of a person to provide consent.

The consent applies to any use of the teacher’s name or image in connection with the QCT, including for the following purposes:

  • promotion and activities relating to the 2023 QCT Photo Competition
  • public relations, promotion, advertising, media and commercial activities.
  • use by the media in relation to activities that promote the teaching profession; and
  • use by other organisations, if any, in partnership or association with the QCT, to promote the profession or the functions of the QCT.

Consent means that the QCT has permission to use the Individual’ material for the purposes mentioned.

A school/teacher may revoke this consent by notifying the QCT in writing.

8. QCT use

‘Use’ includes:

  • create, make copies of, reproduce, modify, adapt or retain in any form, including by camera, video, or digital recorder, webcam, closed-circuit television, mobile phone or any other device
  • distribute, publish or communicate in any form, including but not limited to newsletters and other print media, electronic media, television, social media platforms and the internet; and in whole or in part, and to permit other persons to do so.

The completed material can appear in QCT newsletters, QCT magazines, QCT websites, on QCT social media platforms and in other QCT publications, as well as in television advertising, videos, brochures, forms, public relations displays, annual reports, press advertising, internal publications. There may also be occasions on which the QCT may approve the media, such as local newspapers and television, using information and material concerning Individuals.

The QCT will not pay the Entrant, or an Individual, for giving consent or for the use of the Entrant/Individual’s name, image, or Individual work.

9. Ownership

It is acknowledged that the image submitted may include written work (e.g. stories and poems), paintings, pictures, drawings, designs, photographs, videos, films, music, performance, recordings, computer programs, websites, sculptures, fashion, metal or wood works made by them or to which they contributed.

The QCT understands that the school/teacher owns the intellectual property rights in the image submitted or has permission to use the image, and that consent to use the image for the purposes in these terms and conditions is not meant to transfer ownership.

10. Duration

Consent continues unless revoked in writing to the Director, QCT.

Any revocation of consent will not affect existing contractual obligations entered into by the QCT prior to the consent being revoked.

The revocation of consent will take effect when the QCT’s contractual obligations end.

11. General conditions

The QCT reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the competition and/or the judging process at any time without notice or further recourse to the photographers or schools.

The 2023 QCT Photo Comp is conducted, presented and promoted by the Queensland College of Teachers (ABN 49 750 572 133).
