Celebrating 50 years

Throughout 2021 we are celebrating 50 years of a teacher registration authority in Queensland.

Regional celebrations in Townsville, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Longreach, Toowoomba and Cairns were an opportunity to share the history and milestones in teacher registration with teachers in regional areas.

The QCT and its predecessor organisations have a proud history of upholding high standards for the teaching profession in Queensland.

From humble beginnings with roots in the 1960s, when educators advocated to establish a registration system in Queensland to ensure teachers were qualified and of good character, the Board of Teacher Education emerged.

In 1989, the Board of Teacher Registration followed, taking on the challenge of refining the registration system.

In 2006, The Queensland College of Teachers took up the role with all teachers on the Board’s register transferred and the ongoing task of the upholding and improving the standards of the profession advancing.

In 2021, this 50-year milestone presents an opportunity to not only celebrate the achievements of these organisations, and what it means for the profession, but also to promote the profession on a state-wide scale.
