Program description and rationale

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) dual degree programs (AQF 7) are four-year undergraduate programs (or a five-year AQF 8 qualification in the case of the Music dual degree with Honours).  They are designed for those students interested in becoming a secondary school teacher with the programs leading to teacher registration with QCT. The programs combine academic study with practical experience and aim to provide opportunities for preservice teachers to engage in understanding how to teach secondary school students in contemporary ways. Preservice teachers develop high-level academic knowledge and professional skills across their two equally weighted teaching areas based on discipline knowledge developed during their non-education degree. The program aims to produce outstanding teachers who understand and address the learning needs of students with varying abilities and characteristics and from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. The aim is for all preservice teachers to possess strong research capabilities that enable them to evaluate and improve their teaching practice.

UQ Bachelor of Education (Secondary) graduates have successfully: passed the national literacy and numeracy test (LANTITE), the final Queensland Professional Experience Reporting Framework (QPERF) and the Graduate Teaching Performance Assessment (GTPA); and demonstrated knowledge and met the Learning Outcomes of the core content.
