Program description and rationale

To graduate with a Master of Teaching, students must complete 16 units, including discipline-specific curriculum and pedagogical studies. After a foundation year, preservice teachers can choose to complete either the primary or the secondary stream.

The learning/subject area available for the primary specialisation is English.

The secondary discipline teaching areas include:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Physics, Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Ancient History
  • Modern History
  • Studies of Religion

The Master of Teaching includes 60 days of supervised professional experience in primary or secondary schools, depending on the chosen pathway.

ACCS Master of Teaching graduates have successfully passed the national literacy and numeracy test (LANTITE), the final Queensland Professional Experience Reporting Framework (QPERF) and the Assessment for Graduate Teaching (AfGT).

This program is accredited by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA), which is the Authority under whose legislation ACCS is formally established. For teacher registration eligibility in Queensland, this program has also been assessed against Queensland-specific requirements. More information.
