Conditions including Returning to Teaching
Conditions
A teacher’s registration or Permission to Teach (PTT) may be subject to conditions.
If you do not comply with a condition, the QCT may suspend or cancel your registration or PTT or refuse renewal.
You can email compliance@qct.edu.au to request that a condition be reviewed, amended or cancelled.
You may also be subject to other conditions, including suitability to teach.
Returning to Teaching (RTT) conditions
Fully registered teachers with an RTT condition have not met the recency of practice requirement (teaching for 100 days) within a five-year renewal period.
An RTT condition is not public information and does not affect your status or credentials as a registered teacher.
The condition requires completion of specific professional development if the teacher returns to the classroom.
This ensures that teachers who have had a significant absence from teaching or irregular contact with schools update their knowledge and skills. This helps maintain the integrity of the profession.
Teachers with an RTT condition have the following in their myQCT account:
- information to help you understand the condition
- free online professional development that will satisfy the condition
- an application to have the condition reviewed if the RTT program has been completed
To find out more, please read the RTT policy and guidelines:
You can email compliance@qct.edu.au to request that a condition be reviewed, amended or cancelled.
Suitability to teach conditions
Applicants for registration or permission to teach, including those for renewal, may be found suitable to teach only if conditions are imposed. These conditions may require an applicant to provide information on a recurring basis, such as medical reports, or to undertake further training.
Suitability to teach conditions may be imposed by the Suitability to Teach Committee or by an authorised delegate of the QCT.
You can email legal@qct.edu.au to request that a suitability to teach condition be reviewed, amended or cancelled, or to advise that a condition has been fulfilled.
Professional Capacity & Teacher Conduct Committee (PC&TCC) conditions
Conditions on registration or permission to teach may be imposed by the PC&TCC following a finding that a ground for disciplinary action exists against the teacher.
These conditions are usually imposed to address conduct that has been the subject of disciplinary action. Types of conditions that might be considered by the PC&TCC include participation in a professional boundaries course, periodic medical tests, and periodic medical reports to demonstrate compliance with treatment.
There are no restrictions on the conditions the PC&TCC might impose. Conditions imposed by the PC&TCC are subject to review by the internal review committee.
You can email legal@qct.edu.au to advise that a PC&TCC condition has been fulfilled.
