Privacy

The Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) is an independent authority for the teaching profession. It was established on 1 January 2006 under the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005. The QCT operates under laws including the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act).

Privacy and personal information 

The QCT is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information it collects. It complies with the IP Act, ensuring that information is handled fairly and securely.

What information does the QCT collect?
  • Teacher registration and teaching permissions
  • Criminal history checks
  • Teacher qualifications and principal reports
  • Annual fee notices and registration renewals
  • Disciplinary information about teachers
  • Personal details of QCT staff and vendors
  • Community feedback and related correspondence
Why is this information collected? 

The QCT keeps a secure register of approved teachers. This register is used to:

  • confirm eligibility for registration or teaching permissions
  • manage annual fees and registration renewals
  • compile general statistics.
Who can access this information?
  • QCT staff access for registration, fee, and disciplinary matters.
  • Schools may access limited parts of the register.
  • Publicly available details include a teacher’s registration number, name, status, and renewal dates.

The QCT does not sell personal information and will only share personal information when required by law.

Accessing and correcting personal information

Teachers can request access to their personal information or ask for corrections if needed. These requests are handled under the RTI Act and IP Act. For help, contact the QCT’s Information and Privacy Officer.

Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) project

The QCT contributes to the ATWD project, which collects data about teachers for research and reporting. Personal data is shared with the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) for secure data linking. All data is de-identified for reports, and personal information is protected under the AIHW Act 1987 and the Privacy Act 1988. Teachers cannot be identified in ATWD reports.

Website privacy 

The QCT website uses cookies and Google Analytics to collect anonymous data, such as:

  • browser type, screen size, and traffic patterns
  • pages visited and time spent on the site.

This data helps improve the website. No personal information is collected, and users can opt out of Google Analytics if they prefer.
