Employer information

Employers play an important role in supporting the regulation of the teaching profession. Employers must:

Check QCT approval

• Employers must ensure that only approved teachers are teaching. This means checking that teachers are currently registered.
• Where a school can’t find an appropriate registered teacher for a position, they initiate a Permission to Teach with the QCT.

Support provisional teachers

• Employers should support provisionally registered teachers to meet the requirements for full registration. This includes providing mentoring and professional development opportunities.

Mandatory employer notifications

• Employing authorities are required to make mandatory notifications to the QCT.
