Welcome to the QCT's new website.

Qualifications

You must have successfully completed one of the following:

  • a four-year initial teacher education (ITE) program including teacher education studies of at least one year
  • a one-year graduate initial teacher education program following a degree (students enrolled in nationally accredited graduate entry ITE programs in Australia must meet the national requirements of a two-year program)
  • considered on a case-by-case basis, another course of teacher education that the QCT is reasonably satisfied is equivalent.

The course must include supervised teaching practice.

School-based, employment-based, or alternative teaching pathways may not meet the registration qualification requirements in Queensland. If this applies to you, contact the QCT for advice.

If you have teaching experience but don’t have the required qualifications, you may still be able to apply for teacher registration. You’ll need to show, using the prescribed format, that your education, skills, knowledge, and experience meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (the Standards).

This is a complex process with longer timeframes. We strongly recommend that you contact us before applying.

In certain cases, teachers with a recognised three-year teaching qualification may be able to meet the registration requirements based on either teaching experience or further higher education study.

If you are an experienced teacher with a three-year teaching qualification, please contact us before applying.
