Program description and rationale
To graduate with a Bachelor of Education, students must complete 32 units, including discipline-specific curriculum and pedagogical studies. After a foundation year, preservice teachers can choose a primary or secondary major. Students can also fast-track their degree and become a teacher in 3.5 years.
The primary teaching option offers these pathways: a primary double major with a minor or specialisation in English, mathematics or science; or a double major in early childhood education, special needs education or health and physical education, each with a specialisation.
The secondary teaching option offers these pathways: a secondary major with two teaching areas through to senior secondary, or a secondary major with one teaching area and a double major in learning support.
The Bachelor of Education includes 80 days of supervised professional experience in primary or secondary schools, depending on the chosen pathway.
Griffith University Bachelor of Education graduates have successfully passed the national literacy and numeracy test (LANTITE), the final Queensland Professional Experience Reporting Framework (QPERF), and the Graduate Teaching Performance Assessment (GTPA), and have demonstrated knowledge and met the Learning Outcomes of the core content.
