Assessors

The Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) engages a pool of casual Assessors to assess applications from teachers seeking certification at the Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher career stages of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST).

Assessment work varies throughout the year and depends on the number of applications received by the QCT. Assessors are invited to nominate their availability and may accept assessment work in line with their capacity and QCT requirements.

Assessors are responsible for conducting fair, transparent, timely and evidence-based assessments of applications and providing written recommendations to the QCT. The role includes:

  • Preparing recommendation reports and maintaining detailed assessment records
  • Collaborating with co-assessors during consensus discussions
  • Assessing supplementary evidence when required
  • Participating in training and professional learning activities

The QCT provide training, resources and support for all engaged Assessors.

Assessors must adhere to professional and ethical standards and maintain appropriate privacy and confidentiality practices in relation to all information contained within teacher applications and the assessment process.

This is a casual position, with payment made per completed application.

Requirements

To be eligible for appointment as an Assessor, applicants must:

  • Hold full teacher registration and have a minimum of five years' teaching experience
  • Have completed national Assessor training or be willing to undertake training facilitated by the QCT
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and their application in practice
  • Be able to independently assess teacher applications in a fair, consistent and timely manner in accordance with QCT requirements
  • Possess well-developed written communication skills
  • Have access to and be able to use a range of ICT resources, including a device with Microsoft applications and Adobe software installed, headphones, and a personal email address.
