Practice and conduct
The QCT can investigate if it believes there is a reason for disciplinary action against a teacher, or if a person has failed to comply with the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 (the Act).
Compliance investigations
The QCT regularly checks whether teachers, schools, and authorities comply with the Act, including by regularly reviewing employment records from a sample of Queensland schools to ensure that only approved teachers are employed.
It may also commence an investigation into specific allegations of non-compliance with any offence against the Act.
Failing to comply with the Act can lead to disciplinary action or prosecution.
Practice and conduct investigations
The QCT investigates teacher practice and conduct issues where it reasonably believes there may be grounds for disciplinary action against a teacher.
The purpose of these investigations is to gather all relevant information about the allegations and make findings.
Where the investigator finds that grounds for disciplinary action against the teacher have been raised, the matter must be referred to the Professional Capacity and Teacher Conduct Committee (PC&TCC).
Teachers under investigation will be advised of the investigation and afforded natural justice.
