Community engagement
We engage with our community and teachers to provide a high-quality regulatory and registration system that works in the best interests of children.
Queensland Beginning and Early Career Teacher Reference Group (QBECT)
The QCT engages with teachers and other groups to build strong partnerships. These partnerships aim to strengthen and improve teaching in Queensland and to benefit students, teachers, and the community.
QBECT was established in 2018 to connect QCT with beginning and early career teachers. These early career teachers include preservice teachers in their final year of study and teachers in their first five years of teaching. They bring contemporary knowledge and skills, a desire to learn, and a strong dedication to teaching.
The QCT recognises the importance of working closely with this group. QBECT provides early-career teachers with a forum to share ideas and discuss how the QCT can better support teachers in the early stages of their career. By sharing ideas, projects, and research, QBECT helps to guide the QCT’s work.
QBECT can have up to 10 members. Teachers can join during their first five years of teaching. When a member leaves QBECT, the QCT can request recommendations from employers, unions, professional groups, or others to identify new members. If you’d like to join QBECT, contact the QCT to learn more.
First Nations' Reference Group
In 2025, the QCT established a First Nations’ reference group. This group works with First Nations peoples in Queensland to build respectful relationships. It focuses on learning, listening, and understanding the many cultures and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The group supports the QCT to include First Nations perspectives in our policies, guidelines, and regulatory work.
Principals' Engagement Reference Group (PERG)
PERG brings together representatives from principals’ associations across Queensland. Chaired by the QCT Director, PERG meets quarterly and provides advice as needed.
The group focuses on strengthening relationships between the QCT and school leaders, raising awareness of the QCT’s role, and supporting the teaching profession. The reference group provides a forum for new ideas, initiatives, and mechanisms to achieve continuous improvement.
