The Awards provide opportunities to recognise and celebrate teachers who inspire their school communities. Teachers, principals and individuals from school communities were invited from early April 2009 to nominate teachers for awards in two categories: Excellence in Teaching & Excellence in Beginning to Teach. Nominated teachers must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers and employed in a state or non state school in Queensland.
Selection Criteria
A panel of judges assessed nominations in three criteria: demonstrated excellence in a teacher's specialist field; significant contribution to the teaching profession; and an inspirational role model for other teachers. Consideration is given to achievement as an individual or as part of a school or system; demonstrated innovation and creativity that leads to effective student learning outcomes; and effective professional relationships with the school community.
Nomination Form
Nominations for the Excellence in Teaching Awards closed on Friday 24 July 2009. Teachers, heads of department, heads of curriculum, heads of special education services, deputy principals and principals were eligible for nomination.
The Queensland College of Teachers seeks to ensure that teaching in Queensland schools is performed by appropriately qualified, competent and ethical people in the best interests of students, the profession and the public.
