Scholarships

The QCT does not offer scholarships. Education stakeholders offer a number of scholarships.

Aspiring Teacher Grants 2012

The Department of Education and Training offers this grant which aims to encourage high achieving Year 12 students (who receive an OP 1 to 5) to consider teaching as a career and to commence a pre-service teacher education program at a Queensland Higher Education Institution in 2012. Grant recipients receive $1500 to assist them in their first semester of study.

Applications close on Friday 9 December 2011.

Bid O'Sullivan Teaching Scholarships

Since 1999 the Department of Education and Training has offered the Bid O 'Sullivan Teaching Scholarships annually to assist Year 12 students from rural and remote areas who have chosen teaching as their career.

Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships

Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships are offered through the Department of Education and Training to assist Queenslanders of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage who have chosen teaching as their career.

Teacher Education Scholarship Program

This program, offered through the Department of Education and Training, is open to individuals with tertiary qualifications in science, mathematics, engineering or a similar field who are interested in becoming secondary mathematics, physics or chemistry teachers.

The Department will provide financial assistance to scholarship recipients to undertake a Graduate Diploma in Education - Secondary (or an equivalent preservice teacher education program). Scholarship recipients who fulfil the requirements of the Department's application for teacher employment process will then be eligible for permanent employment with DET from semester one, 2013. The initial teaching appointment will likely be to a supportive rural, remote or regional location, and recipients will be required to make a minimum service commitment of two years.
