Teaching Awards

A number of different awards are available to Queensland teachers.

Queensland Awards

Peter Doherty Excellence in Science and Science Education Awards

The Peter Doherty Awards for Excellence in Science and Science Education are open to students, scientific laboratory assistants and teachers in state and non-state schools and all Queensland-based tertiary institutions, industries, businesses and research organisations.

The Awards recognise and reward students, teachers, schools and organisations demonstrating outstanding and innovative contributions to science and science education in Queensland.

Microsoft Innovative Teacher Award

National Awards

AITSL - Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (funded by the Australian Government)

The Australian Awards for Oustanding Teaching and School Leadership

Nominations for the 2011 awards are now open and will close in Queensland on 16 June 2011.  Five categories for the 2011 awards are:

  • Australian Primary Teacher of the Year (including early childhood and special education)
  • Australian Secondary Teacher of the Year (including special education)
  • Australian Primary Principal of the Year (including early childhood and special education
  • Australian Secondary Principal of the Year (including special education)
  • Excellence in Teaching or Leadership in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education (Australian Government Minister's Award)

National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) Awards

The Australian Scholarships Group formed the NEiTA Foundation in 1994 to conduct a program of national awards honouring exemplary teachers in Australian schools and early childhood centres.

The awards promote public recognition of the teaching profession and specifically those teachers whose inspirational approach to teaching stimulates student learning.

Australian Government National Awards for Quality Schooling

The National Awards for Quality Schooling recognise and reward teachers, principals, support staff and schools who, in their different ways, make an exceptional contribution to their school community and outcomes for students.

The awards build a better understanding and greater appreciation of the work done in Australian schools, and are a way of sharing good ideas and practice among school communities across the country.

BHP Billiton Science Teacher Awards

The BHP Billiton Science Teacher Awards recognise outstanding contributions made by classroom teachers to science education.
