Strategies for Accessing Professional Development for Supply Teachers
- Take a proactive approach and develop close relationships with the school or schools in which you work on a regular basis. As a minimum, you should know who coordinates professional development within the school and how to access information about the opportunities that may be available and appropriate.
- Request permission to participate in pupil free day professional development activities and any other professional development activities provided at the schools where you regularly work.
- Access online professional development activities provided by QCT.
- Check out the CPD links on QCT’s CPD activities and resources page.
- Access your employer’s website regularly for information on upcoming professional development opportunities.
- Regularly read your employer’s publications for information on PD activities and resources.
- Visit the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) website for information on workshops and other events.
- Network with supply and other teachers in your region to share information about sources of PD such as local presenters, private providers, and useful websites.
- Become a member of discussion lists.
- Contact your professional associations to inquire about professional development opportunities.
- Check your union’s website (QTU, QIEU) for information about professional development opportunities.
