Suitability to Teach (STT)

When renewing registration the QCT must be satisfied a person is suitable to teach. The factors that the QCT considers in making this determination are set out in sections 11,12 and 12A of the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005.

‘Suitability to teach’ includes consideration of:

a person’s criminal history and expanded criminal history

any matter that may have affected their registration or employment as a teacher in another Australian State or Territory or overseas
matters which affect their ability to work with children including, for example, whether, in Queensland or elsewhere in Australia, a person has been disqualified from working with children, whether any conditions are placed on the person about working with children or if there are proceedings or an investigation currently being undertaken in that regard.
