Provisional Registration

Provisional Registration

The period of provisional registration represents a supported introduction to the teaching profession in Queensland. It forms part of the continuum of ongoing development from preservice education to career-long learning.

Features of this period include:

Online Presentation and Workshop

The QCT has developed an online presentation and workshop, Towards Full Registration: The Professional Standards for Queensland Teachers to outline the responsibilities of the provisionally registered teacher during this period, as well as how the Professional Standards for Queensland Teachers support provisionally registered teachers in the process of progressing to full registration and throughout their career.

Period of Provisional Registration

The initial period of provisional registration is two years from the date on which a person is first registered or two years from the date of the establishment of the QCT (1 January 2006) if already provisionally registered with the former Board of Teacher Registration.

Extending provisional registration

Teachers who do not meet the requirements for full registration before the provisional registration period is due to expire, may apply to extend their provisional registration for a further two years. Only one such extension is permitted.  You will receive advice from the QCT at the appropriate time about how to apply for an extension of Provisional Registration.

Teachers who do not meet the requirements for full registration by the end of the extended provisional registration period will be required to re-apply for provisional registration.
