Permission to Teach
A person may be eligible for permission to teach if the person:
- has been offered a teaching position in a school and the employing authority for, or principal of, the school cannot find an appropriate registered teacher to fill the position
- has the knowledge, qualifications, skills or training reasonably considered by the QCT to be relevant for the teaching position the person has been offered
- is suitable to teach
- meets any other requirement for professional practice prescribed under a regulation, including demonstrating the ability to communicate in English at a professional level with students, parents teachers and other persons.
The permission to teach is granted for a specified period which must not be longer than two years. It may be renewed for a further period of two years.
Permission to teach is not registration. Therefore, a person holding permission to teach must not claim to hold registration.
