Graduate Teachers

To be eligible to seek employment in any state, catholic or independent school in Queensland, all teachers are required to be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.

If you are completing a preservice teacher education course and intend to seek employment as a teacher in a Queensland school you will need to complete an application for teacher registration.

You are not eligible to commence teaching, unless you have been granted Provisional Registration or a Permission to Teach.

Queensland Graduates

It is recommended that graduates of Queensland preservice teacher education programs approved by the QCT for the purposes of teacher registration submit an application prior to completion of their program. Queensland graduates are not required to submit academic records or practice teaching reports for their preservice teacher education program.

Queensland universities will provide the QCT with the details of students who have successfully completed their preservice teacher education program. Documentary evidence of other qualifications, such as a BA or BSc is required with the application form.

Graduates from elsewhere in Australia or Overseas

Graduates from preservice teacher education programs in other Australian States and Territories or from overseas are required to meet the requirements for teacher registration in Queensland to be eligible to seek employment.

The QCT encourages you to complete the application for teacher registration online and submit it prior to the completion of your program. When you receive your transcripts, have certified copies made and forward them to the QCT to complete your application. Your registration will be finalised only when you provide all required documentation.
