What is a disclosure log?

A disclosure log is a list of documents released following a decision about an application for access under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act). Section 78 of the RTI Act provides the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) with a legal basis to publish disclosure logs and relevant requirements. Section 78 states:

1. If an agency makes a decision in relation to an access application to give access to a document that does not contain personal information of the applicant and the applicant accesses the document within the access period:
   (a) a copy of the document may be included in a disclosure log if this is reasonably practicable; or
   (b) otherwise - details identifying the document and information about how the document may be accessed may be included in a disclosure log.
   

What is the purpose of a disclosure log?

Disclosure logs provide instant access to information for people who request the same or similar information as a previous applicant, and would otherwise have had to undertake a formal legislative process. Disclosure logs also provide an opportunity for the QCT to disclose associated supporting information, explaining issues of public interest in greater depth.

Disclosure logs are also an important accountability mechanism for the QCT. Information that is disclosed can be used in a range of ways. The publication of disclosed information allows citizens to go to the information source and form their own views of the content.

How do I access documents listed on the disclosure log?

A summary of documents released under the Act to applicants will be progressively published on the QCT website.
