Continuing Professional Development

There are many opportunities for teachers to continue to develop skills and knowledge required for rapidly changing educational environments. Through engagement with a variety of professional development opportunities, teachers have the opportunity to enhance their practice, support student learning and ensure high educational standards.

Professional development comprises active and reflective engagement in a range of professional experiences that are considered supplementary to the day-to-day responsibilities of a teacher. The intent of professional development is to enhance the skills, knowledge and understandings of teachers in order to influence student learning outcomes.

Professional development can be sourced from a diverse range of providers. It can be:

As part of the renewal of registration process teachers who meet the recency of practice requirements, will be required to demonstrate that they have met the continuing professional development (CPD) requirements every five years.

The QCT is developing a Continuing Professional Development Framework which will have regard to the Professional Standards for Teacher Registration.
