Disciplinary proceedings

If the QCT reasonably believes, on the basis of disciplinary information received by the QCT, that one or more grounds for disciplinary action against a relevant teacher exist the QCT must start disciplinary proceedings by referring the matter to either the Professional Practice and Conduct Committee or the Teachers Disciplinary Committee to decide whether grounds exist and wat, if any disciplinary action should be imposed against the teacher.

The nature of the matter, the seriousness of the issues and the requirements of the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 ensure that a matter is referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee.

Should the QCT believe on the basis of disciplinary information that one or more grounds for disciplinary action may exist the QCT may start disicplinary proceedings by authorising a disciplinary investigation. The investigation report must be referred to the Professional Practice and Conduct Committee.

On receipt of disciplinary information QCT may be required to take immediate action to suspend or cancel registration or permission to teach.
