Employing authorities

An employing authority for a school means the person or entity responsible for the appointment of teachers to the educational staff of the school.

The Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 (the Act) requires that an employing authority must notify the QCT:

  • when an investigations of harm to a child commences (s.76)
  • when an investigation of harm to a child ends for any reason (s.77)
  • certain other dismissals in circumstances that, in the opinion of the employing authority, call into question a teacher's competency to be employed as a teacher (s.78)

If an employing authority gives notice as required it is not liable, civilly, criminally or under an administrative process, for disclosing information contained in the notice (s.81).
