Promoting the Profession
The Queensland College of Teachers (the QCT) aims to promote the teaching profession (Section 232 of the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005) by:
- encouraging quality entrants into the teaching profession
- enhancing the commitment of existing teachers and
- increasing public appreciation of teachers.
The goals of the QCT’s strategic priorities during 2008 - 2012 in regard to promoting and enhancing teaching as a profession are to:
- take a leadership role in achieving positive public acknowledgement of the profession and
- create new opportunities to celebrate the contribution of the teaching profession.
Activities
The QCT has identified a number of key activities through which to promote the teaching profession. These include:
- Research Grants for Teachers
- World Teachers’ Day
- a professional magazine for teachers
- a website for Beginning Teachers
- a School Showcase Initiative
- Excellence in Teaching Awards
Sponsorship
The QCT enjoys mutually beneficial partnerships with the Queensland Teachers' Credit Union (QTCU) and Teachers' Union Health Fund (TUH). Through this sponsorship, the QTCU and TUH support the QCT's initiatives to promote the teaching profession and foster positive public perception of teachers.
