Board Members

The Board of the Queensland College of Teachers consists of 17 members including the Chair, as required by the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005.

These members include nominees of the key interest groups in education, including:

  • teacher employers (3 members)
  • teacher unions (3 members)
  • parent groups and the community (3 members)
  • universities offering teacher education programs (1 member).

Other members of the Board include practising teachers. Three practising teacher members, one from the non-state schools sector and two from the state schools sector, are elected by registered teachers. This ensures that teachers have a significant input into the work of the QCT.

Currently 13 members of the Board are registered teachers.

Dr Joe McCorley OAM

Chair of the Board, Queensland College of Teachers

Nominee of the Minister

Joe’s professional career began with the Queensland State Department of Education in 1961 as a primary teacher. Over the next 20 years, Joe worked as teacher and principal of five schools in different areas of Queensland and finally as a District Inspector of Schools.

In 1980 he joined Catholic education as Supervisor of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Rockhampton. Joe was appointed as the first lay Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Rockhampton in 1989, a position held for 13 years.

Following a five year period as Director of the Queensland Catholic Education Commission, Joe returned to the Diocese of Rockhampton in 2006 to coordinate Adult Faith Education and Formation and Religious Education in State Schools.

In 1986 he was awarded an OAM for his services to education. In 2008 Joe was awarded an honorary doctorate by Central Queensland University.

Appointed in December 2009 until December 2011. Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

Craig Allen

Mr Craig Allen

Nominee of the Director-General, Department of Education and Training (DET)

Craig Allen was appointed as Assistant Director-General, DET in July 2009 and is responsible for strategic and corporate leadership in the management of the Department’s human resources.

Craig has a strong commitment to leading strategy that improves organisational performance and delivers innovative corporate solutions.  He has held a range of senior management positions for more that 17 years with a government career spanning more than 31 years.

He has wide experience within Education both as a teacher and an administrator and returned to the Department in 2009 following a successful period in Corrective Services as Executive Director, Corporate Services.

Complementing his experience, Craig also has tertiary qualifications with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Tasmania and post graduate qualifications in public administration from Flinders University.

Appointed to the Board in August 2009 until December 2011. Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

 

Perry Anderson

Nominee of the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU)

Mr Anderson is a Guidance Officer with Education Queensland.

He has been a member of the QTU for over 20 years and has held various positions. He is currently a member of the Executive of the QTU, a State Council representative and president of Brisbane Central branch.

Appointed to the Board in February 2006. Reappointed for the second term of the Board (2009-11). Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

Nola Alloway

Nominee of the Higher Education Forum

Professor Alloway is Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences, at James Cook University, Townsville and Cairns.

Appointed to the Board in July 2008. Reappointed for the second term of the Board (2009-11). Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

Nominee of the Queensland Independent Education Union (QIEU)

Ms Connellan is a Teacher at a Brisbane Catholic primary school.

Appointed to the Board in January 2009 for the second term of the Board (2009-11).Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

 Sue Forsyth

Ms Sue Forsyth

Nominee of the Queensland Public Sector Union (QPSU)

Ms Forsyth was formerly the Director, Organisational Development at SkillsTech Australia, the metropolitan TAFE institute for trade and technical training.  Her various roles at Yeronga Institute and SkillsTech Australia provided an interesting and challenging re-entry to TAFE Queensland and all its complexities, after three years as the senior Department of Employment and Training (DET) representative on the cross sectoral ETRF implementation team in Education Queensland.

Sue’s extensive history in education and workforce planning and development allow her to be a key contributor to educational planning and the collaborative arrangements which need to exist between all players.

In TAFE Sue has had a long history providing a broad range of strategic policy advice, executive support services and the development and implementation of numerous change management initiatives, especially in relation to human resources and industrial relations.

Prior to this Sue was Associate Director and teacher at Bayside Community College, having been released from the Department of Education to help set up that alternative learning environment for senior students in 1986.  That experience followed extensive teaching experience in metropolitan and regional Queensland as well as overseas.

Dr Roger Hunter

Dr Roger Hunter

Nominee of the Association of Independent Schools of Queensland, Inc.

Dr Hunter is the current vice-president and a past-president of Independent Schools Queensland (representing 180 schools). He is also the Queensland member of the Board of the Independent Schools Council of Australia (Canberra), a national association of 1100 schools.

He is a member of the Australian Lutheran College Board (Adelaide) and Grace Lutheran College Council (Rothwell, Queensland). Dr Hunter is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators.

Appointed to the Board in February 2006. Reappointed for the second term of the Board (2009-11). Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

 

 

Ms Alota Lima

Elected state school practising teacher

Ms Alota Lima is an Experienced Senior Teacher who has worked for the Department of Education and Training for 21 years in a variety of roles, including acting as Head of Department and Deputy Principal in a number of regional schools and as a classroom teacher in Primary, Secondary and TAFE settings.

 

She has been an active member of the QTU since 2003 and has held various positions. She is currently a State Council Representative, Gympie Branch President, a member of the Wide Bay Area Council and a member of the QTU’s Professional Issues Committee.

Ms Lima has a strong commitment to enhancing the professional profile of teachers, as well as the development and encouragement of innovative and effective teaching methods.

Appointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

Amy Lunney

Practising teacher representing state schools, nominated by the Chief Executive

Miss Lunney is Deputy Principal at Spinifex State College in Mount Isa.

Appointed to the Board in January 2009 for the second term of the Board (2009-11).

Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

 

 

 

Ms Marise McConaghy

Practising teacher representing non-state schools, jointly nominated by the QCEC and ISQ

Mrs Marise McConaghy is Deputy Principal at Brisbane Girls Grammar School where she has worked for over 20 years. Mrs McConaghy has worked in the Independent and Catholic sector in regional and city schools in both Primary and Secondary settings in co-educational and single sex boys’ and girls’ schools, as well as an advisor for the Catholic Education Office. Her teaching background is English and Drama and she has worked extensively in a senior leadership capacity where she has contributed to strategic direction and accrued governance experience. Mrs McConaghy is a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.

Appointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

Ms Elizabeth Siganto

Joint nominee of Federation of parents and Friends Associations of catholic Schools and Queensland Independent Schools Parents Council

Lisa’s experience is in the corporate and non – profit business sectors. She has been a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, a partner at Deloitte and runs her own consulting business. Lisa practises as an executive coach to business leaders, including school leaders. Lisa has served on many Boards since the mid-1990s. She has also run a family service business and helped create a number of social businesses. She is currently the Queensland Director of Social Ventures Australia which supports and invests in non - profit organisations creating social change in the Employment and Education sectors.

 

Lisa has an MBA from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Queensland.

Lisa has four children and has been actively involved in their school communities.

Appointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

 

Kevin Twomey

Mr Kevin Twomey

Nominee of the Queensland Catholic Education Commission

Kevin Twomey is the Deputy Executive Director of the Brisbane Catholic Education Office and is responsible for strategic planning and quality assurance for the organisation.

Kevin began his career as a teacher and was Principal of four schools across Queensland before moving into the Catholic Education Office.  Within that office he has performed the role of Area Supervisor and Director Employee Services before his appointment as Deputy Executive Director in 2010.

Appointed to the Board in February 2006. Reappointed for the second term of the Board (2009-11). Reappointed for the term 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.
