Background
The Queensland College of Teachers was established under the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 (link) on 1 January 2006. The QCT replaced the Board of Teacher Registration.
Queensland was the first state in Australia to establish a system of registration for teachers in both public and private schools. The Board of Teacher Education was established in 1971 and registration began in 1973. In 1989 the Board of Teacher Registration took the place of the Board of Teacher Education and continued to build on the extensive work undertaken to contribute to high standards of education in Queensland.
