Recency of Practice Policy
Please note: Teachers with a registration renewal date of 31 December 2012 or before should refer to the previous CPD Framework and renewal policy. |
From 1 January 2013, ‘recency of practice’ for purposes of renewal of registration means that a teacher has:
- practised as a teacher whether or not on a full-time basis, for at least 100 days within the five-year period of registration; OR
- attained experience the QCT recognises is the equivalent of teaching at a (Queensland) school for at least 100 days within the five-year period of registration.
For recency of practice purposes, when teachers apply for renewal of their full registration, the following teaching experience is acceptable:
- teaching in a recognised school in Australia
- teaching in another setting in Queensland where the educational program is based on a syllabus or kindergarten guideline approved or accredited by the Queensland Studies Authority.
Under the QCT policy on equivalence for recency of practice purposes, teachers with other experience which they can demonstrate meets specific criteria can apply for a review of the 'Returning to Teaching' condition on their registration.
You should wait until your application for renewal has been processed and you have received your approval notice. You can then apply for a review of the condition.
