Continuing Professional Development Framework
The purpose of the Continuing Professional Development Framework is to recognise the importance of teacher engagement in continued professional development and to outline the expectations for renewal of registration.
The QCT has developed an online CPD recording tool to assist teachers to record their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) from 2010. The tool is accessed through 'on line services' on the top right hand side of the QCT website home page.
You need your registration number and password to log in. When you log in you will see a menu on the left hand side of your page. Select 'CPD records' which will take you directly to the tool. Select 'add a CPD Activity'. Please ensure you 'save' after you complete the entry.
If you do not yet have a password you should send an email to QCT giving your full name, date of birth and registration number and your password will be emailed to you.
Development and Consultation
Representatives of employers, teachers unions, practising teachers, higher education institutions and parent bodies, through their membership of the Queensland College of Teachers Board and Professional Standards Committee were actively involved in the development of the Framework. These key stakeholders participated in focused discussions, debates and decisions about the purpose, principles and content of the Framework.
A comprehensive and state-wide consultation process on the Continuing Professional Development Framework (draft for consultation) was undertaken in 2008.
Implementation Timelines
The Board of the QCT has approved the following timelines for implementation of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework:
- 2009: further communication and education about the Framework and its links to the Professional Standards for Queensland Teachers.
- 2010: the CPD Framework will be introduced and teachers will be required to meet all requirements including maintaining records of their professional development. However, for 2010 only, the QCT will not apply sanctions if a teacher is unable to meet the CPD required. (A Returning to Teaching in Schools condition will apply if an applicant does not meet the recency of practice requirement for renewal of registration.)
- From 2011: ongoing implementation of renewal processes including CPD.
