Framework for Advanced Professional Development

The Framework for Advanced Professional Development (FAPD) has been developed with input from small expert working groups and consultation with schooling sectors and higher education institutions.

The FAPD is developed for the audience of potential providers of advanced professional development.  It provides the basis for endorsement of professional development modules developed by a range of providers, including universities, school sectors and other education providers. It is envisaged that modules based on the FAPD will provide opportunity for teachers and school leaders to build advanced professional capability and will provide articulation to higher education programs.

The FAPD outlines professional development outcomes for teachers and school leaders at the foundational, proficient, highly accomplished and lead phases of teacher development, and for school leaders in the areas of literacy, numeracy, science and assessment capability.

It is envisaged that providers of advanced professional development will develop modules that incorporate a selection of outcomes relevant to a target cohort combined with effective and constructive learning approaches that demonstrate the requirements for modules to be endorsed under this framework.

The Framework for Advanced Professional Development with its related appendices (A-E) may be perused here. This final version of the framework has been prepared incorporating feedback from consultation with schooling sectors and higher education institutions.

  • Appendix A - Professional development outcomes - literacy
  • Appendix B - Professional development outcomes - numeracy
  • Appendix C - Professional development outcomes - science
  • Appendix D - Professional development outcomes - assessment capability that can be applied in any learning area
  • Appendix E - Professional development outcomes for school leaders to lead, manage and support quality curriculum and whole school planning, focussed teaching and monitoring in priority areas of literacy, numeracy, science and assessment capability

Briefing meetings with various groups of potential developers of modules are offered. If you wish to express interest in attending a future briefing session, please indicate your interest and provide contact details by an email to QEPR.

Endorsement process:

The professional development modules listed below have been reviewed and endorsed by QCT expert panels.  Each panel includes teacher, principal and employer representatives across all schooling sectors, as well as representatives from higher education.  All panellists are appointed through a panel selection process and must have expertise in the priority area.

See the Framework for Advanced Professional Development for the endorsement process requirements.
